Time is flying past at a frightening speed and before I know it, a new day has dawned and the previous one is just a blur!
I’ve been back to Lusaka and managed to finish the office move and décor. It was a very tiring and frustrating few days as obviously everything (and everyone) operates on African time. But, the job is done and everyone seems pleased with it. Here is a photo of the main reception area.
I’m out to SA for a few days in November. I’ve booked three tickets for myself, Pierre’s mom and Tannie Alba to attend a doggy fashion show on 12 November at Monte Casino. Some SA celebrities and their pooches walk the runway in their designer outfits (especially the doggies) and the money raised goes to a nominated animal charity every year. I’m very much looking forward to it – think it will be great fun.
As some of you are already aware, Piérre has resigned after five years on the project and we will be leaving Lumwana next year. On the one hand that makes me very sad – sad to leave such a great community of people, beautiful surroundings and most of all little Charlie and all his bush friends. I’m going to miss it all so much. But then I’m also happy to know that there is life after Lumwana and we’re looking forward to all the new and exciting opportunities that the future holds.
Until next time.

Elna,
Great blog, it is very interesting to see the life of people on site at this mine. A friend of mine mentioned the project and it looks like an exciting opportunity. I am currently working on a mine near Australia and would love to take my family to Africa but there aren’t many safe places for a family. I can see from your blog however that there seems to be quite a few families there. I would love to find out more information about the school and also the availability of food – my wife is a vegetarian…and any other insight into family life at Lumwana.
Hi Anonymous,
I've put together an information document to assist people who are considering moving to Lumwana so if you drop me a mail at elna.louw@lumwanamine.com, I'll pass that on to you and also answer any more questions you have. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
Elna
